Ray Gymenez
I was born in Spain the capital Madrid coming from a musician family background. I started my passion for music from a very early age. My parents and my uncle are flamenco profesional musicians as well as music performances and classes were put in place on a daily basis. I have always been playing percussion instruments as the indian table and the Flamenco “Cajon”.
I started to take drums classes at the age of 14 at the Music Workshop in Madrid for two years with Antonio Cimadevila and later on I have been taken particular classes with profesional drumers such as, Dani Perez, Marcelo Gueblon, Kiki Ferrer and others.
In 2010 I obtained a scholarship for the “Escuela de Musica Creativa” University in Madrid, where I also studied piano, harmony and musical production. I studied there for three years until I move into Barcelona were I joined in the famous and original band called “Lenacay”.
In 2014 I travelled to New York were I took an intensive Masterclass with Chris Coleman at the Drummer Collective.
I have been playing, recording in profesional studios and making different tours around Europe, taking part into several bands such as: Gospel Factory, The Locos, The Gangsters of the rhythm, Lenacay, Ojos de Brujo, Redtone, Blow Minds. Also I I have been a drum and cajon teacher.
In 2016 I emigrate to London, where I make my own funk band called Blow Minds with the singer Alben, with own compositions until 2020 when I return to Madrid.
I currently live in Madrid where I work as a session musican, composer and teach flamenco drums and cajon.
